Okay, what kind of sewing project can I do with just plain brown fabric and plain blue fabric. No sewing machine, but by hand. And where can I get a printable pattern? I'm really bored, so, I found a few quarters, went to the clearance rack in walmart, and got some fabric and some ribbon...lol. Now I don't know what to do with it...any ideas? I do applique and embroidery and quilt piecing by hand, usually from my own drawings. I am interested in automating these processes as much as possible, because I am losing both eyesight and manual dexterity with age. From my investigations so far, embroidery machine manufacturers provide proprietary software with their machines, and this limits the designs to that machine. Besides, each design is a new cost. One can buy a software to convert designs into another format, but conversions often lose something in the translation. What I want is to be able to use my own design, from one of my graphics programs, and duplicate it in cloth and threads. Any advice from those of you who write software, or are fiber artists?

I'm trying to find a way to set up a sewing room with a limited amount of space. With a toddler, I don't get a lot of time for sewing, and I can't leave things all over the kitchen. I need a workspace where I can work for a few minutes at a time, then break off whenever needed. I'm not bad at sewing, but don't have a lot of experience. I tend to collect fabric and patterns for projects, but don't often get as far as making things because of the time for getting everything set up, then breaking off to take care of the little one. The kinds of things I need advice on are: - What's the ideal size of table? - Should I use the same table for cutting and sewing, or should I have my sewing maching on a table of its own? - How do I store my fabric? (I have about five storage boxes full of fabric, and I can never find what I want, and have to rummage through all of them) - What should I do with all the little pieces of fabric left over? Any ideas? (I just keep everything, right now!) Any advice you can give me on the 'ideal' workspace would be great!

I want to buy a used Kenmore sewing machine cabinet for my Kenmore machine, but I'm not sure whether they will fit each other. Do they come in different shapes and sizes or is there a standard size for all Kenmore machines/cabinets?

I recently found a great deal on an older (1960's) sewing cabinet at a thrift store (solid wood in excellent shape with drawers!). It didn't come with a machine, but appeared to be able to accept a most machines. So I got it and brought it home, hoping to take the machine I have in an older cabinet out. However, I found that the older machine (1950's?) will not fit in my new cabinet. (It mounted differently and was too short.) I plan to sell my old machine and cabinet at a yard sale, and want to find out what kind of machine I need to look for to work with my new cabinet. Instead of having a place for a standard rectangular base, it has more like an "L". The machines I have seen in the stores recently don't match this. I love the cabinet and want to find the correct machine to fit it so I can use it for my hobby sewing. Any help you would give me on this would be great. Thanks!

I'd like to learn how to sew (with a sewing machine, preferably) at home. Do you have a recommendation for a really good, easy-to-understand system that I should use? It has to be not too expensive, and must be geared toward people with no sewing experience AT ALL. I just bought a sewing pattern from Simplicity, and I've worked with a pattern before, but it only showed one way to place the pattern on fabric. In this pattern it showed 4 different ways to place the pattern. And I know that with some patterns you can make different things (ex. 6 different shirts in one pattern), but on mine, pattern D came with D1, D2, D3, D4. How do I know which pattern to pick?

Pant shells go over the top of hockey pants or girdles to change your team colors without buying a new pair of pants, pants are expensive. For example an NHL allstar game the players are wearing shells over their team issued pants so all the players on the ice are wearing the same pants.
